BANGKOK, Feb 7 (TNA) — Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the massive quake that hit Türkiye and Syria in early Monday, leaving hundreds killed.
Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister and Acting Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri disclosed that Prime Minister/Defense Minister General Prayut offered deep condolences to the government of Türkiye, the victims and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.
On behalf of the Thai government and the Thai people, he said, Thailand stood in solidarity with the people of Türkiye and was ready to provide all necessary assistance via the close cooeration among the agencies concerned. He said Thailand wished the affected areas will be soon recovered.
More than 4,300 people were killed and thousands injured, after a major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck central Türkiye and northwest Syria. The epicentre of the quake was Karamanmaras province near the Türkiye-Syria border, about 600 kilometres east of the Türkiye capital Ankara. More than 5,600 buildings have been flattened across several cities, including many multi-storey apartment blocks that were filled with sleeping residents when the first quake struck.
So far, no Thais have been reported injured or killed in the huge earthquakes. The Prime Minister closely monitored the situation via the Foreign Ministry and urged Thais who lived in the countries to be more alerted and closely followed the news and warning from the governments. (TNA)
