BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) – The driver of the Bentley car, which crashed into a Mitsubishi Pajero on a Bangkok’s expressway early Sunday has been charged with drink driving as he refused to take a breathalyzer test after the accident.
Pol Maj Gen Jirasan Kaewsang-ek, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau on Wednesaday issued a statement on the case of the road accident on Chaloem Maha Nakhon expressway, which involved the Bentley car, the Mitsubishi Pajero and a fire rescue pickup truck.
Although the blood alcohol test result of the Bentley driver, released yesterday was below the blood alcohol content limit for drivers, the police pressed a drink driving charge against him as a driver who refused to take a breath test will be presumed to be under an influence of alcohol.
He was earlier charged with reckless driving, causing damages and injuries to others.
The police brought him to the Bangkok South Criminal Court to seek his detention yesterday. The court approved his detention and later granted bail of 100,000 baht.
Due to wide public criticism over alleged delay of alcohol test, conduct on the Bentley driver, traffic police commander ordered a fact-finding committee be set up to look into the issue and report the result within 15 days. (TNA)
