BANGKOK, July 16 (TNA) – The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will today start its 44th session to consider World Heritage candidates as Thailand will renominate its Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex.
The session will be organized as a teleconference. Varawut Silpa-archa, Thai minister of natural resources and environment, confirmed he would again propose the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex be listed as a World Heritage Site. The committee was scheduled to consider the renomination on July 26 according to Thailand time.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment are ready to answer questions from the committee. They are confident of the Thai government’s efforts to improve the life of people who live in Pong Luek-Bang Kloi village.
Thailand already completed assignments from the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in 2019 for it to heed demands from Karen communities living in the forest, solve human rights issues there and organize public hearings on the nomination of the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex as a World Heritage Site.
The 44th session of the World Heritage Committee was set to begin at about 6pm today Thailand time and continue until July 31. (TNA)
