BANGKOK, Feb 2 (TNA) – Former TV news anchor, Sorayuth Suthasanachinda will be released next month on parole wearing an EM bracelet.
He has been sentenced for bribing a former employee of Mcot Plc to conceal a 138-million-baht fee his firm owed the media organisation.
Director- General of the Corrections Department, Ayuth Sintoppant said that the committee had considered releasing inmates on parole in January and Sorayuth was among 500 inmates, eligible for parole.
He will be released on March 14 and will wear electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet and must report to the probation office.
The parole programme is part of the plan to reduce overcrowding. Currently, there are 320,000 inmates per 10,000 prison wardens across the country. The programme helps decrease the number of prisoners from 380,000 earlier.
On Feb 11, the parole board will meet again to consider 7,000 more eligible prisoners but not all of them will be released. Prison facilities are suitable for accommodating about 300,000 inmates. (TNA)
