BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) – The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration reported 142 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours and admitted that Bangkok was spreading the disease.
CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the 142 new cases comprised 125 local infection cases and 17 arrivals in quarantine. The total cases rose to 12,795.
“In Samut Sakhon province, 63 cases were found. Samut Sakhon is a key target of active case finding. People at over 10,000 factories there must be tested within this month. Tests will be conducted at 50-60 factories a day,” Dr Taweesilp said.
Asked if Bangkok was spreading the disease, the spokesman said Bangkok was the center of the nation and many people were traveling to and from it. So, naturally it played important roles in spreading the disease, he said.
Dr Taweesilp also said that it was too early to conclude if Techin “DJ MaToom” Ploypetch was a super-spreader of COVID-19. The spokesman thanked the infected DJ MaToom for revealing his timeline in details.
The timeline was useful because the man had met many groups of people and visited many places, Dr Taweesilp said.
The COVID-19 Situation was stable but did not deserve complacency. Officials would be monitoring the situation closely until Jan 31 and then revise control measures. COVID-19 control zoning would also be reconsidered, he said. (TNA)
