TOKYO, Feb 10 — Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe witnessed the signing of memorandums of cooperation for Thai railway development and mutual business promotion.
Memorandums of intent on the railway development and cooperation for mutual business promotion were signed.
The Japanese prime minister praised Gen Prayut for his efforts to introduce true democracy in Thailand.
Mr Abe said he hopes Thailand can achieve reconciliation among its people and become the center of the ASEAN Community.
The Thai prime minister said his visit to Japan was to emphasize the strategic partnership between both countries. He hopes the partnership will play important roles in ASEAN and the Greater Mekong Subregion.
Gen Prayut said that Thailand and Japan would urgently build three railways in Thailand that will become east-west and north-south economic corridors.
Both countries will develop the Dawei special economic zone in Myanmar, the biggest economic development project in Southeast Asia, which will link the Greater Mekong Subregion and South Asia.
This morning Gen Prayut was briefed on Japanese railways at the Tokyo train station.
Then he boarded the high-speed train "Shinkansen" to Osaka for a luncheon with representatives of five economic organizations.
The prime minister's delegation will return to Thailand at 8pm. (MCOT online news)
