BANGKOK, Dec 16 (TNA) – Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha on Wednesday officially opened the last leg of the Green Line train service and the first phase of the Gold Line, Thailand’s first driverless mass transit line.
After the opening ceremony, both services will be open to public at 1pm. today.
The last leg of the 68km Green Line, connecting Bangkok and Pathum Thani comprises seven stations – Phahon Yothin59, Sai Yud, Saphan Mai, Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Yaek Kor Por Aor and Khu Khot.
It will offer service free of charge until Jan 1.
The prime minister boarded a Green Line train from Kukot station to Krungthon Buri station and presided over the opening of the first phase of the Gold Line train.
He boarded a Chinese-made Bombardier Innovia APM 300 automated people-mover for the Gold Line.
The 1.8 km Gold Line, a secondary link, supporting the capital’s mass transit consists of three stations – Krungthon Buri, Klong San and Charoen Nakhon.
It is expected to serve 42,000 passengers per day. The service will operate free of charge until Jan 15. (TNA)
