LAMPANG, June 20 (TNA) – A by-election was organized to fill a vacant House seat representing Constituency 4 of the northern province. Crowds of voters turned up in the morning to experience a New Normal way of election amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Many voters had arrived at their polling unit before the voting started. Everyone must wear a face mask and pass body temperature screening. Three health volunteers manned each polling unit. Those with a fever must cast their vote in a special booth and enter disease investigation.
Inspecting the by-election, Ittiporn Boonpracong, chairman of the Election Commission, said the EC tried to ensure the most convenient and safest by-election for voters. He believed that an increase in polling units from 231 to 286 units in Ko Kha, Soem Ngam, Sop Prap, Mae Phrik and Thoen districts would reduce crowding and provide voters with conveniences.
Mr Ittiporn expected the turnout from about 160,000 eligible voters would be 77%, the same level in the previous election. (TNA)
