BANGKOK, March 17 (TNA) – The Corrections Department is cancelling visitation at its prisons for 14 days, starting today after the Cabinet’s resolution on Tuesday approved 14-day closure of entertainment venues and educational institutes to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection.
The measure will prevent the spread of the virus into prisons, which currently accommodate 380,000 inmates across the country, said the department’s director-general.
The visitation ban is put into effect from March 18-31.
Prions are crowded. If an outbreak occurs, it will be difficult to control, he said while adding that the corrections department has preventive measures in line with the advice of the Public Health Ministry.
So far, no inmate is infected with coronavirus. (TNA)
