BANGKOK, Sept 23 (TNA) — The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) proposed Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha form a national committee to push for the development of 5G communications.
NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said that he sent the proposal to the prime minister along with a report on the ASEAN Telecommunication Regulators’ Council meeting that updated the progress of 5G development in the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
A national committee on 5G could seriously push for 5G communication development and staff of the prime minister already agreed to study relevant possibilities, Mr Takorn said.
According to his proposal, the committee should comprise 10-15 high-level specialists from all ministries that can quickly apply 5G communications. They included the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Industry Ministry, the Transport Ministry and the Interior Ministry.
The committee could make more flexible and faster efforts to accelerate 5G development as the NBTC planned to auction off frequency spectrums for 5G services, Mr Takorn said.
He suggested 5G communications begin with agricultural, industrial, public health and transport sectors as well as smart city projects. (TNA)
