CHON BURI, Sept 4 (TNA) – India’s navy ships Sahyadri and
Kiltan made a port call at Laem Chabang Port in the eastern province of Chon
Buri from Aug 31 – Sept 3 as part of their overseas deployment to Southeast
Asia and Western Pacific.
The port call of the two naval ships is a demonstration of
India’s warm ties with the kingdom of Thailand, Indian Ambassador to Thailand Suchitra
Durai said at a media briefing held on board the navy ship, joined by
the captains of the two ships.
Professional interactions between personnel of both the
navies, official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Royal Thai Navy
were held during the port call, she said.
In addition, social engagements, visits by the local
populace and various sports events were also organized during the visit, the
ambassador added.
On completion of the visit, the Indian Navy and Royal Thai
Navy ships were undertaking a patrol exercise at sea to further build on the
levels of interoperability between the navies to ensure peaceful and secure
seas for all, Mrs. Durai noted.
Designed and built by India, Sahyadri and Kiltan are equipped
with a versatile array of weapons and sensors and can carry multi-role helicopters.
The two ships represent the ‘coming of
age’ of India’s warship building capabilities, according to the press statement
