BANGKOK, Aug 27 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut
Chan-cha on Tuesday led his Cabinet members to receive His Majesty the King’s
royal remark with his handwriting on the occasion of the cabinet swearing-in
ceremony, which took place at Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace on
July 16.
In a rare rite seen by many as a correction of Gen Prayut’s
incomplete wording during the swearing-in ceremony on July 16, the prime
minister and Cabinet members received the royal message individually in front of His Majesty
the King’s portrait to be the reminder and guidance for doing their duties.
The government announced the Tuesday’s rite on Monday
without providing any details.
After the ceremony at Government House, Gen Prayut declined
to comment or clarify about it, saying “please refrain from commenting.”
He only showed the copy of the royal message expressing
moral support for the government to perform its duty.
Earlier, Gen. Prayut apologized to ministers for not
completing the oath before taking office last month.
In the oath-taking to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn
on July 16, Gen Prayut omitted a phrase “to
protect the constitution” – as stated in the Constitution.
He has been hit with the controversy since the opposition
Future Forward Party accused him of being constitutionally disqualified because
he had failed to complete the wording in last month’s cabinet swearing-in
ceremony.
The opposition parties have accused Gen Prayut of violating
the charter and called for a House debate on the matter next month.
A group of lawyers and an activist have submitted petitions
asking the Office of the Ombudsman to launch investigation into the oath-taking
process and forward it to a court. (TNA)
