The first batch of Thai army engineers, dispatched to Sudan under the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has performed an impressive task since operation last December, the spokeswoman said.
The Thai army engineers construct road running between Juba and Yei for a total distance of 150 kilometres of which 90 kilometres of the road are complete. The road, named the ‘Thai Road’, is used by the U.N. for sending supplies and travelling by the Sudanese.
Also, the Thai army engineers constructed the water drainage system and upgraded the telecommunication system in the camps.
Another group of Thai engineers are now stationing in Rumbek city by repairing an airport runway and a road between the city and Akot town.
The first group of Thai army engineers will station in that country one year while the second group will leave for Sudan if it is needed by the U.N. (TNA)
