SATUN, June 12 (TNA) – Police are seriously handling the 71 Rohingya and Myanmar migrants whose boat went aground off the southern province.
A Thai man was charged with smuggling the aliens who were already detained at police stations.
The fishing boat carrying the illegal migrants ran around near Talo Pra Rian beach on Koh Rawi island in the provincial seat of Satun province yesterday. Most of the migrants are Rohingya. They were detained at Chalung and Muang Satun police stations and a local immigration police unit.
Police inspector-general Pol Gen Suchart Theerasawat arrived in Satun today to follow up the case in which Sompong Papan, 49, who was also on the boat faced the charge of smuggling aliens into the country.
Satun police chief Pol Maj Gen Supawat Thapkhliao said Mr Sompong traveled with the aliens on the 30-gross-tonnage boat and police would find out if he was involved in any human-trafficking gang. (TNA)
