BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) – Thailand is poised to drive rice production
with innovation as to retain its position as the world’s leader in rice
industry, says a senior Commerce Ministry official.
At the biannual Thailand Rice Convention on Tuesday,
Commerce Ministry Permanent Secretary Boonyarit Kalayanamit said Thailand, a
country that exported an average of 10 million tons of rice each year, had
developed new approaches driving the industry with innovation.
Under changing marketplace and consumer behavior towards
healthier lifestyle, Thailand had adopted rice production methods to meet the
demands of global lifestyle, he said.
The 9th Thailand Rice Convention between Monday and
Wednesday is held under the theme “Drives Thai Rice Towards the New Global
Lifestyle.”
Over 800 agriculturalists, academics and traders from around
the world participated in this year’s Convention and discussed various
subjects, said Bunyarit.
Thailand Rice Convention has been held since 2001 as a forum
for global rice trade stakeholders to share their views, experiences and
visions on global rice market. (TNA)
