RANONG, May 10 (TNA) – The stateless student, Yonruedee
“Ploy” Phiyatat was granted Thai citizenship, which allows her to
leave the country for a youth science competition in the US.
After making her first Thai ID card in Ranong on Friday (May
10), she will be able to represent Thailand in the Genius Olympiad, which will
be held in New York on June 17.
The 17-year-old student of Satree Ranong School said she was
delighted to receive the ID card and she can now apply for the US visa to join
her team to participate in the international competition.
She earlier made her plea on her Facebook account for an
opportunity to attend the high school competition in the US after a delay in
seeking a travel document due to her stateless status.
Her case attracted public attention and she was granted Thai
citizenship after approval from the Interior Ministry.
Yonruedee was born and grew up in Thailand. Her parents are
Myanmar people, working legally in Thailand. (TNA)
