KHON KAEN, April 12 (TNA) – Local residents and tourists in Khon Kaen started their Songkran New Year traditionally at a main Buddhist temple in the northeastern province.
They visited Wat That on Klang Muang Road in Nai Muang sub-district of Muang district. Visitors paid respect to Phra Phut Phra Lap, a revered Buddha image of Khon Kaen, in the praying hall of the temple. They also traditionally bathed Phra That Nakhon Derm pagoda and built piles of sand there to maintain the longstanding customs related to the Songkran festival.
Teerasak Teekayupan, mayor of Khon Kaen municipality, said the municipal office organized its Songkran festival and in the afternoon there would be a ceremony to extend best Songkran wishes to senior people of Khon Kaen including the provincial governor, at the City Pillar.
There will be about 20 stages for performances along the one-kilometer-long Khao Niew Road to celebrate Songkran. The municipal office also invited people to gather on the road to set a new human wave record at 7pm on April 13-15. (TNA)
