BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) – Artificial rainmaking operations are set to start in the southern region next week to tackle drought.
Surasee Kittimonton, chief of the Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department said an additional artificial rainmaking operation unit will be opened in Surat Thani next Monday.
He said the high pressure ridge will build into the region late next week, increasing the chance of cloud seeding operations.
The mission targets agricultural areas in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chumphon, facing drought.
The newly-established unit is the 10th artificial rainmaking operation unit. The department plans to set up 13 units this year.
Meanwhile, it continues the mission to fill reservoirs in the upper part of the country as suggested by the Royal Irrigation Department.
The artificial rain will also help reduce dust particles in the northern region.
As drought is likely to worsen in April, the hottest month, another artificial rainmaking unit will be set up in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima. (TNA)
