BANGKOK, March 6 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha will not participate in the election campaign of the Palang Pracharat Party (PPP) in Nakhon Ratchasima province this Sunday, a source close to the premier said.
General Prayut has no plan for any field trip outside his normal work schedule and he is now recovering from an eye surgery, the source added.
After being invited by his party to take the stage in Nakhon Ratchasima province, his home town on March 10, Gen Prayut, as the PPP prime ministerial candidate yesterday expressed concern over participating in the party’s election campaign
He said if he takes the stage during the election campaign, many people plan to sue him or target him. He had to be careful and consult his legal team about it.
In response to his rejection, the party leader, Uttama Savanayana, said his party will continue canvassing for votes as original plan in Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Rai from March 9-11.
The party respects Gen Prayut’s decision if he will not join the party’s election campaign. The party candidates do not lose their morale with his absence.
It will later discuss in what form he could participate in the election campaign and meet voters without violating the law. (TNA)
