AYUTTHAYA, Feb 19 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha planted a Sri Maha Bhodi sapling from Sri Lanka in Ayutthaya province to remember King Bhumibol Adulyadej and honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of the Makha Bucha Day today.
Gen Prayut, PM’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana, Sri Lankan Minister of Buddhist Affairs Gamini Jayawickrama Perera attended the event at Wat Vajirathammaram Temple in Maha Rat district.
The sacred sapling originated from the oldest Sri Maha Bhodi tree descending from the Sri Maha Bhodi where Buddha had stayed and achieved his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, India.
The prime minister expressed his gratitude towards Sri Lanka for presenting the Sri Maha Bhodi sapling which he said was highly meaningful to Thai people and Buddhists. He said that the presentation was also in remembrance of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and in honor of His Majesty the King.
It also represented good ties between Thailand and Sri Lanka, Gen Prayut said. (TNA)
