KHON KAEN, Jan 29 (TNA) – Mourners have flocked to attend the cremation ceremonies of Luang Por Koon Parisutho at the crematorium in Khon Kaen, scheduled this evening.
The ceremony will start late afternoon and the royally –sponsored cremation will take place at 10.15 pm. at the temporary crematorium at Buddhamonton Isan in the premises of the Nong Waeng Temple.
Craftsmen have put the finishing touch on carving banana tree trunks and fresh flower decoration at the elaborate crematorium with the statue of Husadilingu – the mythical half-bird, half-elephant.
His body will be moved from Khon Kaen University’s Golden Jubilee Convention Hall to the ceremonial site this afternoon. He donated his body for medical education there.
The monk died in May 2015 at the age of 92.
After the cremation, the monk’s ashes will be scattered in the Mekong River in Nong Khai province as he wished.
The former abbot of the Baan Rai Temple in Nakhon Ratchasima has been much revered not only by Thai people but also Buddhist worshippers from Laos.
A hundred of Lao people have come to join the ceremony at the Baan Rai temple, where the cremation will be held for the monk’s replica. Over 100 monks were ordained there today. (TNA)
