BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) — The two government agencies have inked a ‘Smart City’ cooperation to jointly manage the Laem Chabang deep seaport in Thailand’s eastern province of Chon Buri.
The cooperation was signed Friday by senior officers of Port Authority of Thailand and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency.
It was witnessed by Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj and Deputy Transport Minister Pailin Chuchottaworn.
Mr Pailin said the cooperation would create a flexibility in managing Laem Chabang deep seaport, especially during the first phase which focuses on heavy trucks entering and leaving the seaport.
Presently, the seaport caters about 7 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) daily and would increase to double after the phase 3 of the construction is complete, said Mr Pailin, adding that it is necessary to introduce the IT technology to help smoothen the operation.
Meanwhile, Mr Pichet said the government and the private have each jointly invested 50 million baht in developing the ‘Smart City’ and upon completion it would help boost economic and social advantages for the country. (TNA)
