BANGKOK, Dec 7 (TNA) – Lao Minister of National Defence Lieutenant General Chansamone Chanyalath has attended the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting with his Thai counterpart.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan welcomed Lt Gen Chansamone, who is visiting Bangkok to attend the 25th Thai-Lao GBC meeting.
Lt Gen Chansamone received a military guard of honour at the Ministry of Defence before talks to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Gen Prawit said Lao authorities is ready to cooperate with Thailand to monitor pro-republic “Thai Federation” movement, which had networks in Laos.
The Thai Federation movement has no on-the-ground presence in Thailand and appears to be mainly active online, with support from Thais living overseas.
The Thai deputy minister played down the movement, saying it is only an idea of a group of people without any armed forces. (TNA)
