CHIANG MAI, March 14 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon has ordered all-out measures to curb forest fires, which mainly caused haze in the northern region, said Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich.
During his today’s visit to the Kawila military camp in the northern province of Chiang Mai to follow up updates on the ongoing forest fire situation, Gen. Prawit ordered local officials, police and soldiers to work with volunteers and to deploy all resources, equipment and aircraft to stop forest fires in northern provinces.
He told provincial governors to put all efforts to handle the problems and to ask for assistance from the central administration to support their operations.
He instructed officials to implement proactive measures to ban open burning and to campaign for people participation besides close monitoring and rapid response to the forest fires during the dry season.
Dense clusters of hotspots have caused poor air pollution in the northern region. (TNA)
