BANGKOK, Dec 5 (TNA) – Natural rubber prices are rising by 1.40 baht per kilogram in response to a government road project, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Grisada Boonrach said.
The minister said that the increment happened today to both latex and rubber sheets, compared with their prices yesterday.
He attributed it to the government’s project to use natural rubber as a raw material to build local roads in villages. He said that the project was being implemented in 80,000 areas as the government assigned local administrative organizations to build one kilometer of such roads in each village.
The project was consuming 1.4 million tons of rubber and would result in roads that would be 5-7 years durable, Mr Grisada said.
He also said that the payment of government subsidies worth 1,800 baht per rai of rubber plantations would start within this month and benefit 999,065 rubber growers and 304,266 latex collectors. (TNA)
