BANGKOK, Nov 7 (TNA) – The Cabinet approved the waiver of visa-on-arrival fee for tourists from 21 countries, including China and India for two months.
Government spokesman Buddhipongse Punnakanta said that the Cabinet, on Tuesday, agreed to waive 2,000 baht visa fees for tourists, staying in Thailand no more than 15 days from Dec 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019.
The 21 countries are Andora, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Papua New Guinea, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The waiver of the visa fee is to stimulate tourism. It is expected the number of tourists is likely to increase by at least 30 per cent, the spokesman said.
According to the statistics from the Immigration Bureau, since January 2016, the number of tourists, applying for the visa on arrival has dropped continuously. The measure is aimed to attract more tourist arrivals to the kingdom, he added. (TNA)
