NONGKHAI, Oct 25 (TNA) – Crowds of people enjoyed watching over 100 Naga fireballs that appeared over the Mekong River in the northeastern province of Nong Khai yesterday.
The best spots to view the Naga fireball are in Phon Phisai and Rattanawapi districts.
The first fireball emerged from the river into the sky at 6.17 pm. and it continued for several hours.
The annual phenomenon at the end of Buddhist Lent draws a large number of visitors to the province and helps stimulate local tourism.
Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Udon Thani office, Seksan Sripaiwan said the number of tourists is likely to increase 20 per cent this year during the TAT’s campaign to promote uniqueness, beliefs and faith in each locality.
The belief in Naga or the mythical serpent, related to the Buddhism and the popularity of Nakee 2 movie about the Naga legend help spur tourism.
People flock to see the Naga fireballs, making hotels fully booked in Nong Khai and Bueng Kan. Some tourists have to find accommodation in Udon Thanim.
He said it is expected that at least 100 million baht will be spent during the Naga fireball festival. (TNA)
