BEIJING, May 2 (TNA) – A Chinese expert says Thais and Chinese should learn more about each other to avoid misunderstandings that could hurt their relationship.
Professor Bai Chun of Beijing Foreign Studies University believes that fostering understanding and reducing negative feelings are key, especially for Chinese people living in Thailand to better grasp Thai culture.
He noted that the relationship between the two countries has grown beyond just friendship to include strong business and trade connections.
While this is good for overall ties, Professor Bai warned that negative views, global politics, and problems caused by illegal Chinese businesses in Thailand could create tension between the people of both nations. He stressed that talking and understanding each other is important to fight these negative attitudes.
Professor Bai pointed to issues like the “grey Chinese” problem and scam call centers as examples where misunderstandings have caused anger on both sides. He suggested that instead of blaming each other, people should try to understand each other to find solutions together. As a translator himself, Professor Bai also highlighted the important role of translators in helping people understand each other.
He said “learning” is key to cutting misunderstandings. Understanding Thai society and integrating helps reduce friction. He also urged Chinese in Thailand to engage with local life, language, and culture to truly understand the country, rather than staying isolated. -819 (TNA)
