BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) – In yesterday’s provincial senator election, 3,000 candidates advanced to the national level, with many prominent figures making the cut as expected.
The Election Commission Office reported on the provincial senator election held yesterday. A total of 3,000 candidates were selected to advance to the national level, comprising 2,164 men and 836 women.
There were 497 candidates who did not report for the selection process, out of a total of 23,561 registered applicants.
Prominent figures who advanced as expected include former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, Veerasak Vijitsaengsri, former Governor of Ang Thong Province, Panlert Baiyoke, owner of Baiyoke Tower and Lawyer Sittra Biabangkerd.
Some prominent figures who did not pass the provincial selection round included news anchor Narakorn Tiyayon, former Election Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, and Dr. Rienthong Nanna, director of Mongkutwattana Hospital.
The 3,000 provincial senator candidates who passed will proceed to the national senator election, where they will select 200 national senators on June 26 at the Impact Forum Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province. -819 (TNA)
