BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) – Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has taken sick leave after contracting COVID-19 and is expected to resume duties on June 19.
Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke stated that the Prime Minister consulted a doctor after experiencing mild fatigue since Friday, June 14. The doctor diagnosed COVID-19, estimating that the infection had been present since the onset of symptoms on Friday.
The Prime Minister was advised to rest until fully recovered and no longer contagious, with follow-up check-ups scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. It is anticipated that he will return to normal duties on Wednesday, June 19.
Before learning of the COVID-19 infection, the Prime Minister had been resting in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and inspecting Phetchaburi Airport.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Srettha mentioned a previous visit to assess the runway expansion and noted that the current visit was to review the airport’s readiness again.
AirAsia has started a commercial flight service between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai, operating one flight daily, which is seen as a positive step to boost tourism. AirAsia plans to open more routes from other regions, including the Northeast and South.
The Prime Minister has instructed Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit and the Permanent Secretary of Transport, who accompanied him, to expedite service area improvements and coordinate with commercial airlines to increase flight routes. – 819 (TNA)
