BANGKOK, Aug 20 (TNA) — The Criminal Court on Tuesday laid down a six-month jail term sentence to Premchai Karnasuta, president of Italian-Thai Development Plc, forSix-Month Jail Term for Premchai of guns and ammunition.
The jail term was halved from one year due to his recent confession.
The sentence responded to a search at Mr Premchai’s house in Sun Wichai 3 Road in Bangkok on Feb 7, 2018, when officials found three rifles, a musket and three rifle bullets that he was not allowed to keep.
The search followed the arrest of Mr Premchai and three followers at his unallowed camp in the Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in Thong Pha Phum district of Kanchanaburi province on Feb 6.
In March the Thong Pha Phum Court sentenced him to 16 months in jail for supporting poaching, keeping the carcass of a protected pheasant and illegal possession of guns in public.
Just before hearing the ruling today, Mr Premchai asked the court for light punishment in exchange for his 15-day monkhood, 3-million-baht donation and his lifelong abstention from guns. The court rejected the request, saying he had been convicted on two other criminal cases.
He was seeking bail from the court. (TNA)
