BANGKOK, Aug 1 (TNA) — China and ASEAN member states agree to promote the development and network of smart cities and exchange their students to strengthen cooperation.
The agreement happened when ASEAN foreign ministers met their Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bangkok on July 31.
In the meeting at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, the ministers discussed cooperation on the networking of smart cities and mass media’s activities and preparation for the ASEAN-China Summit in November.
The meeting also expressed satisfaction on progress in ASEAN and China’s negotiation on the Code of Conduct (COC) for the South China Sea in June. The next round of the negotiation was scheduled in Vietnam next month.
The COC will promote the conservation of marine resources and help prevent tension in the South China Sea.
On the same occasion, ASEAN and Chinese foreign ministers launched scholarships for ASEAN and Chinese young leaders. The scholarships were aimed at facilitating the exchange of students and future cooperation between both sides.
Mr Wang Yi was also set to attend the Post Ministerial Conference (PMC), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and related meetings. (TNA)
