BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) – Thailand will next week organize the largest
organic trade fair in Southeast Asia to promote organic products as consumers
become increasingly aware of healthy lifestyle.
BIOFACH Southeast Asia and Natural Expo will be held for the
second time in Thailand at Impact Muang Thong Thani from July 11 to 14 by the
Commerce Ministry in collaboration with Nuremberg Exhibition Centre of Germany.
Internal Trade Department Director-general Wichai Pochanakij
said Thailand had the potential to become an organic trading center because of
its location and government support policies.
The country had great opportunity to tap in rapidly growing
world organic market that accounted for US$104 billion, he said.
Domestically, the organic market grew about 10 percent
annually to Bt3 billion, said Wichai, while Thailand’s organic product exports
represented 0.06% of the world’s market.
Over 400 organic farms and organic food producers from
Thailand and 12 other countries including China, Germany, India and the US will
showcase their products to consumers and potential buyers at the expos.
The Ministry expected at least 50,000 visitors at the
four-day expos where they can buy products and learn more knowledge about
organic food. (TNA)
