BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) – The Royal Thai Army has alerted its disaster response units in storm-prone areas to cope with the impacts of Tropical Storm Mun.
Deputy army spokesperson Col Sirichan Ngathong said the movement followed the Meteorological Department’s announcement that the tropical storm would cause heavy rain, strong winds, flash floods and runoffs in 51 provinces in the North, the Northeast, the Central Plain and the East on July 3-5.
Army chief Gen Apirat Kongsompong ordered the army’s disaster relief center to monitor weather conditions and prepare swift assistance at local army bases and with other parties including volunteers, Col Sirichan said.
Disaster relief units of army area commands exercised their disaster responses and put personnel on standby in the past week and they were able to effectively help affected people, she said. (TNA)
