BANGKOK, Oct 20 (TNA) — The newly appointed army chief General Apirat Kongsompong will visit the deep southern provinces for the first time since his appointment to the new post on October 1 with the attempt to boost security and development in the area.
A spokeswoman of the Royal Thai Army said Gen Apirat would give his security policy to concerned government agencies stationing in the area as well as boosting morale of government officials working in the deep South.
Gen Apirat had in the past week ordered related government agencies in building security in the area, which has been plagued by bloody violence in few decades in the past.
He also ordered officials of the Fourth Army Region Command, which is responsible for security in the South, to strengthen relations with Thailand’s neighbouring countries which could assist in solving security problem and boost joint development, the spokeswoman said.
Next Monday, Gen Apirat is schedule to chair a meeting of the secretariat office of the powerful National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) at the Royal Thai Army headquarters and would attend the meeting through a video conference, she said.
Currently, Gen Apirat is also secretary-general of NCPO. (TNA)
