BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) – Thailand sought the listing of the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex as the World Heritage site at the World Heritage Committee meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Raweewan Bhuridej, secretary-general of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning said that Thai officials presented additional document to clarify the committee’s concerns over community participation and rights in the forest complex and Thai – Myanmar border issues.
She said Thailand downsized the area of the forest complex near the Myanmar border, proposed for the UNESCO nomination to allay concerns over the overlapping of the boundary line, adjacent to Myanmar’s protected area, which has also been nominated for the listing.
It is expected that the World Heritage Committee will examine Thailand’s forest complex nomination for inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on July 5. (TNA)
