BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) — The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) now has confidence that its equipment is ready to cope with future flood threats.
Deputy city clerk Sompong Wiangkaew said that flood-relief equipment was ready and predictions of rainwater amounts were effective; therefore, the City Hall was confident it could respond well to heavy rain.
According to him, rain can be predicted an hour in advance. Besides, the BMA always monitors the directions of rain to prepare flood-relief measures in affected areas on a real-time basis.
The BMA also shares the updated information on the website of its Department of Drainage and Sewerage at http://dds.bangkok.go.th at every 15 minutes. People can also monitor rain locations reported by the BMA’s radars at http://weather.bangkok.go.th/Radar.
Mr Sompong blamed severe flooding in Bangkok last Friday on an unexpected problem at a flood drainage tunnel in Bang Sue district. The problem was solved and more pumps were installed, so the BMA was ready to cope with heavy rain, he said.
Bangkok governor Aswin Khwanmuang wrote in his Facebook page that rain was likely in the capital from afternoon to evening for the time being.
The Meteorological Department predicted rain in 40%-60% of Bangkok from June 12 to 18. (TNA)
