NONTHABURI, May 15 (TNA) – The Commerce Ministry through its Foreign Trade Department will organize the Thailand Rice Convention 2019 late this month to promote Thai rice and give rice-related updates to international participants.
Deputy Commerce Minister Chutima Bunyapraphasara said the convention was set at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre in Bangkok on May 27-29 and her ministry expected at least 800 participants including Thai farmers and representatives of rice-related government and private organizations from countries such as China, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, the United States, Canada, Spain and Russia.
According to Miss Chutima, the Thailand Rice Convention 2019 will focus on quality rice and the development of rice to meet the lifestyles of young and old people worldwide. In the convention, Thailand will present a wide range of its rice varieties, especially the varieties with outstanding tastes and nutritional values.
The Thailand Rice Convention started in 2001 and has been organized every two years to allow rice-related authorities to exchange information, experiences and visions.
Miss Chutima also said that Thailand was a big rice producer and exporter. This year it would produce about 22 million tons of rice and export about 10 million tons.
Thailand held a 20-25% share of global rice markets and generate about 150 billion baht from its annual rice exports, she said. (TNA)
