BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) – Phuket International Airport has tested the newly-introduced biometrics system, which will help identify people and detect fake passports.
The biometrics system is being installed at 16 airports across the country and the installation is about 70 per cent completed.
The facial and fingerprint identification, developed by Dermalog, Germany’s largest biometrics company will increase Thai airports’ efficiency in screening travelers on the blacklist, fugitives and transnational terrorists and detect falsified passports.
Thailand is ASEAN’s fifth country that adopted the biometrics system for immigration operations.
Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy police spokesman said that 2,000 biometrics machines will be installed at immigration checkpoints around the country. The new system will be fully utilized on July 1. (TNA)
