NONTHABURI, April 22 (TNA) — Thailand’s Department of Foreign Trade and Malaysia will organize a trade fair of Thai and Malaysian products in Narathiwat province on April 26-28.
Adul Chotinisakorn, director-general of the department, said his department together with organizations in Narathiwat and Malaysia and the consulate-general in Kota Bharu would hold the trade fair at the Maharat stadium in Sungai Kolok district to promote products of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces to the eyes of Malaysian operators near the border.
The fair was aimed at boosting the cross-border trade of both countries.
The trade fair would present quality products from both countries. There would be 80 booths of Thai products, mostly from southern border producers, and 40 booths of Malaysian products. Most exhibits would be foods, beverages, health and beauty-related products, household appliances and fashion and lifestyle products, Mr Adul said.
He expected the trade fair would lead to immediate business matching with deals worth at least 6 million baht and more business deals worth at least 30 million baht in a year.
During the trade fair, Thai and Malaysian authorities at the local level would discuss trade obstacles and solutions. Besides, there would be discussions on relevant trade privileges and marketing strategies, Mr Adul said.
Southern border trade through Narathiwat was estimated at 3.6 billion baht annually, the second highest after 570-billion-baht trade through Songkhla province, he said. (TNA)
