BANGKOK, March 24 (TNA) – Representatives from 11
countries and an international organization have observed Thailand’s election
at the invitation of Thailand’s Election Commission (EC).
The EC held a forum for the foreign observers who are mostly
election officials from ASEAN countries as well as diplomats of Australia,
Bhutan, Maldives and South Korea.
International IDEA, a democracy advocacy group, took part in
the election observation activities.
They attended a forum at the EC office in Bangkok Sunday
morning before travelling to polling stations.
The EC will hold a conference and vote count monitoring for
the international observers at 6 pm.
Besides the invited group, there are also foreign officials,
academics and organizations who have requested observation access.
David Streckfuss, an independent scholar who has lived in
Thailand for 30 years, talked to MCOT at a polling station in a Bangkok school.
He said he had observed the polls with his friends from
international media organizations.
