PHATTHALUNG, March 11 (TNA) –Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon will travel South to follow up the situation Monday afternoon after several bombings rocked Satun and Phatthalung provinces with no reports of injuries.
Gen. Prawit will hold a meeting with local security officials at the Pak Payoon police station in Phatthalung. This area was hit by blasts at nine spots.
The Provincial Police Region 9 has worked local police on the cases. They have not ruled out security issues, political conflicts and other problems.
Security has been tightened in southern provinces following series of blasts. In Songkhla, officials stepped security measures in Hat Yai’s business district.
Police patrol units have been deployed to conduct searches for explosive devices. Local defence volunteers have checked suspicious cars and motorcycles in business areas.
Checkpoints have been set up on roads, leading the provincial seats. Mobile units have patrolled secondary roads, Songkhla’s four districts, connecting three violence-prone southern border provinces and Sadao district, bordering Malaysia.
The security operation will continue until the situation returns to normal. (TNA)
