SAMUT SONGKHRAM, March 4 (TNA) – A Thai kite competition
has been held in Samut Songkhram province to promote the tradition at the
beginning of kite-flying season.
Culture office and administrative body of Samut Songkhram
co-organized the event in Amphawa district on Sunday.
More than 20 teams flying Thai ‘chula’ and ‘pak pao’ kites
in battles, in which competitors look to hit their opponent’s kite and send it
to the ground.
The chula kite is in a five-pointed star shape made of five
bamboo frames, stringed and covered with mulberry paper. The pak pao kite is in a diamond shape, with
a stronger frame.
The chula and pak pao kites battles were the highlight of
the event.
Meanwhile, kite makers also showcased their creativity in
fancy kite competition divided into five size categories.
Samut Songkhram kite competition attracted kite-flying
enthusiasts to celebrate and learn about various Thai traditional kites.
