NAKHON SAWAN, March 2 (TNA) — As summer season has started in Thailand, the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry has launched an artificial rainmaking operations nationwide for 2019 to assist people, especially farmers, considered as backbone of the country.
Minister Grisada Boonrach said Friday while presiding over operations launched under the concept of ‘Fonluang Let’s Go for Goal’ at the airport in the central province of Nakhon Sawan that there are signs a drought situation this year is expected to be worsen.
Quoting latest information released by the government-run National Water Resources Office on February 23, Mr Grisada said reservoirs in the country store less than 30 per cent of normal level.
Mr Grisada said his ministry has ordered related government agencies to map out strategic plans fighting the expected drought and to also assist farmers.
Meanwhile, Surasee Kittimonthon, Director of National Water Resources Office, said that his office has established five artificial rainmaking operations in five regions.
There are altogether 12 operation units and they will conduct artificial rainmaking from March 1 until October 31 in 77 provinces, said Mr Surasee.
On air pollution or small dust particles known as PM2.5 problem which is affecting people living in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the Office has been assigned by the Ministry to spray water in an attempt to reduce dust particles in the air.
The PM2.5 problem in the Thai capital presently has improved from last month. (TNA)
