BANGKOK, March 6 (TNA) — The agriculture minister opened the 43rd International Conference on Veterinary Science where countries and organizations presented veterinary innovations and outstanding veterinarians were honored.
Grisada Boonrach, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said veterinary science played important roles in Thai livestock which generated national income worth about 240 billion baht a year. The roles concerned the standard of livestock exports and the health of animals and people among other factors, he said.
The conference was the forum where veterinarians could exchange experiences and update themselves on academic progress. Experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Organisation for Animal Health shared their knowledge in the meeting.
On the occasion, the minister presented awards to five outstanding veterinarians.
Sorawit Thaneeto, director-general of the Livestock Development Department, said the academic conference would also boost relations among Thai and foreign veterinarians as they were presenting their academic achievements.
His deputy Somchuan Mangkhlanont said about 700 people participated in the conference. (TNA)
