BANGKOK, Feb 5 (TNA) – Bahrain and Australia should hold talks on Bahraini footballer Hakeem Al Araibi and they should adopt diplomatic ways of resolving the case, said Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.
In the meantime, Al- Araibi will undergo the court proceedings in Thailand, the minister said.
Thailand has no interest in this case, so the government should not be pressured, he added.
Bahraini footballer, 25, was brought to the Criminal Court yesterday.
The court considered the extradition in response to the request from the Bahraini government that wanted him for arson and damage of public properties during the Arab Spring movement in 2012.
The court extended his detention until hearing date set on April 22.
A Bahraini court had sentenced Mr Araibi in absentia to 10 years in jail for setting fire on a police station in 2012. He received political asylum in Australia and played in a semi-professional league there.
He was arrested in Thailand in November last year while on vacation with his wife. (TNA)
