BANGKOK, Jan 22 (TNA) — The Labor Right Promotion Network Foundation (LPN), a wellknown non-governmental organization (NGO) for protecting workers’ rights, is considering to set up centers for promoting the quality of life of workers in Bangkok and all other Thai provinces nationwide.
LPN Founder and Executive Director Sompong Srakaew told journalists that LPN is conducting a feasibility study on the plan, aimed mainly to assist migrant workers in Thailand and to work together with relevant government agencies to prevent and address the problems of human rights violation and human trafficking in the labor sector.
Recently, LPN played a vital role in detecting illegal trawlers off Indonesian coasts, leading to its coordination with the Thai Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Social Development and Human Security towards the successful crackdown of a human trafficking gang and the rescue of a group of Thai workers and migrant workers from neighboring countries who were lured to work as slave labors aboard the illegal fishing boats by the Thai police.
On January 20, LPN organized a public forum in seaside Samut Sakhon Province near Bangkok to listen to opinions of workers and other participants and to provide useful information for migrant workers, their employers and Thai officials for the sake of the better solution to the problems of human rights violation and human trafficking in the domestic labor sector.(TNA)
