BANGKOK, Jan 3 (TNA) – Tropical storm Pabuk is moving into the Gulf of Thailand today and will make landfall at the border of Chumphon province and Surat Thani province tomorrow’s evening.
Under the influence of the storm, heavy rain and strong wind will hit Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Krabi, Trang and Satun.
It will bring rain over a wide area in the southern region on Friday and Saturday. High waves and strong winds are forecast for both the Gulf and the Andaman Sea with waves up to 3-5 meters high in the Gulf and 2-3 meters high in the Andaman Sea. All ships should keep ashore.
Heavy rain in Narathiwat since last night prompted shops at Narathat beach to close today. Coastal fishermen hauled their boats onshore for fear of the impact from the adverse weather.
Narathiwat governor ordered a special center be set up to monitor the storm impacts around the clock and inform local residents to update the weather condition.
Residents in disaster prone areas, surrounded by the mountain range are warned to beware of a possible flash flood and mudslide.
In Songkhla, people along the coast were evacuated from their homes last night following heavy rain and strong wind. (TNA)
