PHANG-NGA, Dec 26 (TNA) – A leatherback turtle laid eggs on a beach in Phang-nga for the second time in five years.
The location is near the Thasai Temple in Thai Muang district, is about 30 km. from the first spot, where a leatherback turtle laid eggs earlier this month.
Jatuporn Buruspat, head of Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources ordered officials to build a fence to protect them from animals. A CCTV surveillance camera will be installed to monitor the birth of the baby turtles and prevent theft.
Officials checked the hole and assessed that it would not be flooded during the hide tide, so they left the eggs to hatch naturally.
The leatherback turtle is endangered species with a risk of extinction in the wild. (TNA)
