SOUTHERN THAILAND, DEC 21 (TNA) – Flooding in several
provinces in the South of Thailand continues despite less downpours in the past
few days.
Six districts of Trang province face worsening inundations
due partly to high tide blocking water drainage and runoff from mountain
range. Even though there has been no
rain in the last few days, flooding has persisted.
Kantang has become the latest flood-hit district after Trang
River has overflown.
Floodwater was as deep as 70 centimeters in town center of
Trang, forcing at least five schools to suspend their classes.
In Phatthalung province, several communities have recovered
from week-long floods except those in three districts of Mueang, Khuan Khanun
and Khao Chaison.
Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office plans to declare
more flood disaster areas covering three districts: Srinagarindra, Mueang and
Kong Ra.
Thailand’s South has been affected by flooding triggered by
torrential rain over the weekend.
Authorities and military teams have been deployed to provide
relief helps to residents from flooding reoccurring in the region’s rainy
season almost every year.(TNA)
